CaptureWiFi

UniFi captive portal

A hosted external portal server for UniFi.

UniFi’s built-in guest page does the job and not much else. Point your hotspot at CaptureWiFi instead and every access point gets a branded login page, four ways in, and a dashboard that shows who used it.

The flow

What happens between your controller and ours

01

Hotspot redirect

A phone joins your guest SSID. UniFi holds it at the hotspot and redirects the browser to CaptureWiFi with the access point and device details.

02

Right page, right place

We look up the access point, load the landing page it’s mapped to, and apply the current seasonal theme.

03

Guest gets through

Lead form, access code, username or payment, whichever that page is set to.

04

Authorised by your controller

We sign in to your UniFi controller’s API and authorise the device for the time you set.

UniFi built-in vs CaptureWiFi

Same hardware. A very different login page.

You keep your access points, your controller and your network settings. What changes is the page guests see and what you get out of it.

Setup

What you change on the UniFi side

Four settings, and we walk through them with you on the call.

1

Create an account

A controller user for CaptureWiFi, so we can authorise guests.

2

Enable the hotspot

On your guest network, turn on the hotspot portal.

3

Set the external portal

Point it at CaptureWiFi instead of UniFi’s own page.

4

Allow before login

Add our address to pre-authorisation access so the page loads before the guest is online.

Questions

UniFi questions

Something else? Ask us.

What is a UniFi external portal server?
UniFi’s hotspot can show its own basic guest page, or send guests to an external server that shows a custom one. CaptureWiFi is that external server: hosted, branded, and able to authorise guests back through your controller.
Which UniFi setups does it work with?
UniFi Network controllers that expose the standard API, whether self-hosted or on a cloud key or console. We sign in to the controller with an account you create for us and authorise guests by MAC address.
Can different access points show different pages?
Yes. Each access point is mapped to a landing page, so the bar, the restaurant and the function room can each have their own.
What happens if a guest closes the page?
Nothing breaks. The next time their phone checks for internet, UniFi sends them back to the login page.
Do you support UniFi vouchers?
CaptureWiFi uses its own access codes instead of UniFi vouchers. You can set a usage limit and expiry per code, and switch any code off from the dashboard.
